About the Book
No matter where along that red-blue divide you find yourself, disagreeing with someone politically can wear you down at the same time as it opens up new possibilities for enlightenment. But if you’re not there yet—and most of us aren’t—this workbook helps you remember that life is short and the person you love isn’t the enemy.
Deceptively simple and invaluably warm-hearted, Politically Divided uses 27+ games and activities to help you get to the heart of political disagreements and have a little fun in the process. While it won’t completely solve our national crisis, it makes a good case for laughter opening the door.
With chapters like “Finding Common Ground During an Earthquake,” “Just (Can’t) Get Over It” and “Improving Your @#$%&! Vocabulary,” this how-to healing workbook takes the sting out of repairing political divisions you thought were here to stay.
If you’re tired of feeling at odds with people you love—and if studies and articles about the political divide leave you without a clue about what to do—you’ve come to the right place.
Finally, a relationship-boosting workbook for the rest of us.

AUTHOR Q & A
Why Did You Write This?
I decided to create this workbook after watching the increasing divide in the country. I wanted to contribute something to lessen the near-constant outpour of negativity. I also wanted to write something that was accessible to everyday people. I'd listened to a number of people talk about our divisions, but I wasn't finding any practical help in easy-to-understand language. Statistics weren't cutting it for me. I wanted to see if I could find something to help with the relationships that were right there in front of me. Can It Really Help? Yes. I believe there is a more honest and productive way to deal with mutual dissent than hollering at each other and working ourselves up to a dangerous sort of rage. I believe this workbook can help you find the fun in getting to know yourself and others better in order to move the conversation forward, increasing tolerance for differing points of view along the way. What Are Your Personal Politics? I lean more blue than red, but I've been known to disagree with both. I wrote this book not to share my point of view, but to get people with differing beliefs talking to each other, while avoiding or finding a way through the heated arguments. I also hope the activities in the workbook help you understand your own beliefs a little more, and in so doing, enable you to take a step back and listen to what someone who disagrees with you has to say.
